Normally, mentally unstable people are kept away from political office. But, with the upcoming election of Al Franken as the next Senator from Minnesota, this trend has ceased.
But, even more scary than Al Franken, is that his election is spurring more people who should be kept out of politics altogether.
Yes, Doug Pagitt is running for office. Minnesota state legislator to be precise.
Note to the people of Minnesota: Your state is already going to be a laughingstock due to Franken. Please spare yourself further embarrassment by NOT electing Doug Pagitt. Thank you!

With a close review of his upcoming posts on his positions (given he doesn’t violate my inviolables, which would shock me if he did), I would gladly vote for Doug Pagitt, provided he steps aside most of his ministry commitments at Solomon’s Porch. He’s one of the most compassionate and genuinely kind people I’ve had the chance to observe.
You and I need to talk. The blog is no place for dialog on this.

In thinking about the idiocy that would be a Pagitt political campaign, I was reminded of this quote from Arthur Hunt. (It was written in 2003.) I think he nails Obama and Pagitt to the wall (would this count as a preemptive strike?):
“I have defined postmodernism as a turning from rationality, and at the same time an embracing of spectacle . . . The image waits for a political life . . . . There are more reasons to fear fascism than communism in a postmodern world. For one thing, fascism is anti-intellectual (communism is predicated on ’scientific’ theories). Fascism requires no rational basis other than the acceptance of a charismatic leader riding on sheer ‘will to power.’ However, it is also true that fascism likes to prey on demoralized and desperate societies. Hitler, for example, fed off desperate times that required desperate measures. While America is becoming more anti-intellectual (irrational), we are not yet demoralized or desperate. A consistently strong economy and a high standard of living has both spoiled us and kept us from danger. We seem to be safe for now, but the future arrives much faster than it used to . . . Such a landscape will eventually create, I think, some extraordinary opportunities for political sophistry.”

The only cool thing about he Pagit pic is the mountain of weed he is sitting on. The rest is disposable egoism.
