On February 26th, Senators Obama and Clinton were asked if there were words or votes they would like to take back, and Senator Obama’s response was that he regrets his 2005 vote allowing Congress to get involved in the case involving Terri Schiavo.
What sickens me about this is that during the Terri Schiavo media attention, I did some simple investigation of my own on this issue. In my short amount of time on Google, I was quickly able to get a picture of the situation: Terri Schiavo’s husband begs for his wife’s life to be saved after a questionable accident (why the D.A. didn’t go after him I don’t know), gets millions from insurance company, uses money for re-election campaign of Florida judge (a buy off), then claims she wants to die, despite the fact that she is alive and recovering. The judge that Mr. Schiavo bought off then becomes involved, taking her husbands side, and using his influence to murder Terri Schiavo. Make no mistake, this was nothing more than premeditated murder.
A good friend of mine says that we can judge a society by how it cares for the least fortunate in that society. And I agree. All people are created in God’s image and have the same value and dignity that all of us have. If casual murder for disabled people is to be the norm, then woe to us as a nation. Woe to those who would lead us down that path. And shame on you, Mr. Obama, for regretting what was a humane and decent decision to assist an innocent woman from a murderous husband.
Note: To Obama’s credit, at least his stance on this issue is consistent with his views on abortion.
